Other Industries

Architects and engineers

At Wright Ford Young & Co., we have forged a niche serving architects and engineers, including design firms; design/build firms; urban planners; civil, structural, and mechanical engineers; and land surveyors. Architectural and engineering firms usually consist of a fairly fluid shareholder group where exiting and entering shareholders are the norm. Because these professional firms typically enjoy high levels of profitability, our tax planning and minimization strategies are important to our architecture and engineering clients. Effective governance and transition planning are critical to continued success.

Leasing

The leasing industry faces difficult accounting and tax regulations. Our decades of experience serving market leaders in the industry, including materials handling, medical equipment, and aircraft and information technology equipment, have allowed us to develop a team of personnel who thoroughly understand these regulations. We also closely monitor the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s (FASB’s) actions and regularly communicate them to our clients. The FASB has issued an Exposure Draft that, if implemented in its current form, will significantly affect the leasing industry. The final new accounting standard is scheduled for release in the summer of 2011.

Health care

Our health care practice includes various industries, such as medical device companies, research and development entities, and skilled nursing facilities, that serve the needs of an aging population. Common issues and opportunities include Medicare and Medi-Cal reimbursement, venture capital group collaborations, private equity fund-raising, stock compensation, research and development credits, and mergers, acquisitions, and divestures. We are well versed and experienced in serving our clients in these matters.
